Fashion in Rio: best tips on where to shop in RJ
The carioca lifestyle is a hit all over Brazil and also in international countries. From the Marvelous City, iconic brands have emerged that have taken the world with their sunny, beachy and authentic DNA, such as FARM, Gilson Martins and Isabela Capeto.
We are specialists in materializing the creativity and high spirits of cariocas into objects of desire. The relaxation of those who stroll from the beach to a chic dinner wearing Havaianas and a look full of bossa nova is unique! And this is how the city of Rio de Janeiro has distinguished itself as a fashion hub over the years.
For years, the city hosted Fashion Rio, a series of shows that set trends in national fashion, alongside the iconic São Paulo Fashion Week. In addition, Rio’s street markets are unique creative hubs, such as Babilônia Feira Hype, O Mercado, Feira Hippie de Ipanema, among many other open-air markets that bring together all kinds of artists.

Where to buy clothes in Rio
The Ipanema neighborhood stands out above all for being home to several boutique stores and flagships of major brands. Strolling through the neighborhood’s streets, visitors come across shop windows that ooze concept, sophistication and the hottest new arrivals on the market. Here are our tips for stores that are worth a visit:
- Gilson Martins: known for his bags with iconic Rio de Janeiro landscapes, Gilson Martins dedicates a space in the flagship to an art gallery, with temporary exhibitions by artists who use the city of Rio as a theme. The store is also home to exclusive art launches. (Located at Rua Visconde de Pirajá, 462 B)
- Nannacay: recently opened, the three-storey concept store has architecture designed by Projeto Tupi and showcases the handbags of the Rio brand, which works exclusively with manual projects and local artisans. (Located at Rua Garcia d’Ávila, 134)
- Havaianas: the world’s most beloved slipper has a store of almost 400m², spread over four floors, where customers can immerse themselves in an authentically Brazilian experience. (Located at Rua Garcia d’Ávila, 124)
Other cool stores to visit include: Fernanda di Biase, Adidas, Osklen, Maria Filó, among many others.
Finally, the big news is that FARM is due to open a concept store in August 2025 in the trendy Rua Garcia d’Ávila. At first, the brand promises to expand its presence beyond the usual clothing and accessories, including items such as surfboards and bicycles – in other words, a real dive into the carioca lifestyle.
Moda In Rio 2025
Also in 2025, the Rio 2C innovation and creativity event will dedicate an exclusive day to the fashion sector. The Fashion System Summit will take place on May 27 at Cidade das Artes, Barra da Tijuca, and will feature eight panels of national and international guests.
With a diverse and thought-provoking program, the Summit promises to debate everything from behind-the-scenes creation to the challenges of sustainability and technological innovation in the sector. In addition, topics such as circular fashion, artificial intelligence applied to design and the new paths of conscious consumption will be on the agenda.
Among the highlights on the agenda are panels on representativeness and inclusion on the catwalks, as well as the role of independent brands in the cultural and aesthetic transformation of fashion today. At the same time, the event aims to be a meeting point for creatives, entrepreneurs, investors and students, encouraging connections and collaborations beyond the stage.
Some of the names confirmed are Ib Kamara, creative director of the Off White brand, and Reiner Holzemer, a German filmmaker who directed the documentary ‘Margiela: The Magic of Disappearing’. The event is curated by Olivia Merquior, who points out:
“Fashion dialogues directly with creativity and is at the center of various strands explored by Rio2C. The Summit aims to reveal how the sector influences the way we live and express ourselves, broadening its impact on the event”
With this, Rio2C reinforces its position as a platform for fostering the creative economy, bringing fashion to the center of discussions that shape the future of various industries. In this way, the Summit Fashion System consolidates itself as a unique opportunity to think about fashion in a strategic, global and – above all – innovative way.
